ETF installs the catenaries for the Western Extension of Strasbourg’s F tramway system
In February 2024, ETF’s Catenaries teams were awarded the contract to install the overhead contact lines for the western extension of Line F of Strasbourg’s tramway network. The start of work, scheduled for November 2024, will mark the beginning of an intense twelve-month construction period.
This project includes key technical phases to guarantee the performance and safety of the network, including the installation of the LAC armouring, the laying of contact wires, the installation of section insulators, the layout of power supply equipment and the installation of insulating loops.
The particularity of this project lies in the dual expertise mobilised by ETF, covering both the track and the catenaries, making it possible to offer complete solutions and ensure optimum coordination between the different aspects of the work.
In March 2024, ETF also won the contract to supply and lay the track for the same tram line. This project, carried out for the Compagnie des Transports Strasbourgeois (CTS), involves creating a new 4,500 metre route and adding eight new stops, extending the service from the current ‘Comtes’ terminus to Wolfisheim.
Completion of this extension, scheduled for the last quarter of 2025, promises to improve the daily lives of tens of thousands of passengers. Jeanne Barseghian, Mayor of Strasbourg, highlighted the positive impact of this project on the connectivity of the neighbourhoods and access to the employment areas of Eckbolsheim, Les Forges and Parc Gruber.
These projects reflect ETF’s commitment to modernising and extending rail infrastructure to better serve tomorrow’s mobility needs.
